ERLAI - European Regional and Local Authorities on Asylum and Immigration

ERLAI è una rete europea di regioni ed enti locali sull´immigrazione e l´asilo, con base a Bruxelles, promossa e coordinata dalla Regione Emilia-Romagna, attraverso il Servizio di collegamento con l´Unione Europea.
Nel corso del 2003, il Servizio ha promosso, in collaborazione con il Servizio Politiche per l´accoglienza e l´integrazione sociale, incontri bilaterali con diverse regioni ed enti locali europei per approfondire la conoscenza di realtà territoriali europee in tema di immigrazione, accoglienza ed integrazione. E´ stata quindi creata la prima rete a livello europeo: ERLAI (European Regional and Local Authorities on Asylum and Immigration) formato ora da più di una trentina di istituzioni provenienti da 8 Stati membri (Cipro, Germania, Grecia, Italia, Regno Unito, Slovenia, Spagna, e Svezia). ERLAI ha l´obiettivo di agevolare lo scambio di esperienze e buone prassi, promuovere la circolazione delle informazioni sulle politiche ed i finanziamenti comunitari, favorire lo sviluppo e la partecipazione a progetti europei. Dal 2007, le attività della rete sono rafforzate dal co-finanziamento della Commissione Europea nell´ambito del Programma INTI, attraverso il Progetto ERLAIM (European Regional and Local Authorities for the Integration of Migrants).

ERLAI is a Brussels-based network of regional and local officers on asylum and immigration. The group meets regularly to share good practice from the regions and to liaise with the EU institutions on legislative developments and funding opportunities. Work focuses on the key asylum and immigration issues of reception and integration. Our main objectives are:

• to ensure members are fully briefed on the EU agenda and that proper account is taken of the local and regional dimension in European policy development;
• to promote awareness of good policy and practice in other regions and local authorities;
• to explore possibilities for joint projects and facilitate funding bids.

Our target audience includes the EU institutions, international institutions, other relevant organisations and regional and local authorities around Europe. The ERLAI network has made considerable progress over the last few years consolidating its position as a major forum discussion among leading EU regions and local authorities on asylum and immigration. Membership continues to grow and now includes more than 30 regions and local authorities from 8 EU member states. The ERLAI network activities are considerably strengthened by the European Commission co-financing of the ERLAIM project. All interested stakeholders are warmly invited to contact us in order to enlarge and strengthen the networking and dissemination of the project.
